[2018-10-08] CEE Himalaya and disaster risk reduction

On 22 July 2018, with financial support from International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the Centre for Environment Education (CEE Himalaya), Give2Asia and RCE Srinagar organized a training on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) preparedness in the flood prone villages of Ahata and Reti hata of Jarwal Block, Bahraich District, Uttar Pradesh. Over 200 people including representatives of the Gram Panchayat village council, women, men and children participated in the training.

Lead by the Government of Andorra and co-organized with the Mountain Partnership/FAO, UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme and the governments of Argentina, Chile, Italy and Switzerland, the event “Leading Sustainable Mountain Development” will also focus on pro mountain policies and actions for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the country level.

Hosted by the MRI in May, this GEO-GNOME Status and Scoping Workshop focused on different needs for mountain data and the role of GEO-GNOME in curating and providing this data. The actions planned as a result of this workshop will improve both the spatial and thematic span of mountain data, as well as the availability of mountain data for policy information needs.
